Donor Spotlight: Erika Peterman

June 14, 2023

“Once one understands the history of the Ursulines and the mission of Chatfield, it is hard not to get excited and want to be a part of it,” said Erika Peterman, current Chatfield Edge donor and board member.

Erika jumped onto the Chatfield bandwagon after learning more about the organization’s mission from a good friend and colleague she worked with at BASF, the international chemical and industrial solutions manufacturer. Dr. Michael Pcolinkski developed the BASF scholarship for students at the former Chatfield College and encouraged Erika to serve on the Chatfield College Board of Trustees as a representative of BASF.

Why does Erika support The Chatfield Edge?

“Through the scholarship, BASF aims to instill a love for learning, but also an interest in pursuing the study of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math). In addition, Chatfield serves a large percentage of non-traditional students – people who strive to improve themselves but perhaps need financial assistance to afford taking time to get an education,” said Erika.

As time passed, supporting Chatfield became a part of Erika’s personal service and philanthropy plan. “Why are we here if we don’t take time to improve life for others? When I give my resources, I know that I’m making a difference in the lives of others.”

What would you say to someone considering contributing financially to or volunteering time at The Chatfield Edge?

“We provide hope and support to those who have the drive to achieve, better themselves, and give back to their local communities,” responds Erika. “Our mission at The Chatfield Edge is as clear today as it was when the Ursulines founded the college so many years ago.”

Erika moved out of the Midwest in 2019 but continues to stay connected to the Chatfield community.

“I have to say that I always enjoy learning about the students’ personal stories. It takes a village to ensure any person achieves their goals, and to know that we each played a meaningful part in a student’s success is always uplifting.”

As Erika says, when you give to Chatfield, you become part of the Chatfield family.
