Scholar Spotlight: Kaylie Helton
March is Oral Health Month, and we are excited to spotlight Chatfield Edge Scholar Kaylie Helton, who is on her way to becoming a dental hygienist.
A student at the University of Cincinnati – Blue Ash, Kaylie came to The Chatfield Edge at the suggestion of a friend. Once she read about our programs and met our Director of Programs David Hesson, she knew she wanted to become part of The Chatfield Edge community.
Like many Chatfield Edge Scholars, Kaylie knows that pursuing her education will lead to the future she envisions but recognizes that she lacks the support necessary to get there. Financially independent, Kaylie works part-time as a lifeguard to support herself, but needs additional support to stay in school. She views the close-the-gap scholarship funding that she receives from The Chatfield Edge as a vote of confidence in her ability and greatly values the other unique resources the organization provides.
Donor Spotlight: Janet McDaniel
Decades ago, as an elementary school girl, Janet McDaniel attended Ursuline Academy on the corner of Oak Street and Reading Road in Cincinnati. There she was inspired by the story of Julia Chatfield and the Ursuline Sisters and developed a love for education, spirituality, and the arts.
Although she left Ursuline after completing the sixth grade to attend a public school, she remained connected to the Ursuline Sisters, attending summer camp at their Brown County campus with her sister.
Through the years, Janet kept her eye on the Ursuline Sisters as they launched Chatfield College in 1971 and The Chatfield Edge in 2023. She credits the successful transition from a college to the current non-profit to the values and beliefs of the Ursulines.
“The Sisters have deep faith and believe in diverse individuals and their unique gifts and talents,” Janet reflected. “Like the Ursuline Sisters, I believe that education is a key to solving society’s challenges as it allows individuals to grow, accept responsibility, and use their gifts to benefit others.”
