St. Angela’s Chapel in Loving Memory of Diane C. Knueven Starting to Take Shape
The seven foot round window of authentic German stained-glass is making its long-awaited arrival at the OTR campus, where an unfinished shell and round hole in the wall has caused many an inquisitive look. The Chapel, designed by Martha Dorff of Schickel Design, is named for St. Angela Merici, foundress of the Ursuline Sisters in the sixteenth century, as a bold statement of our commitment to Chatfield’s Ursuline values and legacy.
The stained glass window was shipped in pieces from Germany to St. Louis where it was carefully assembled by highly skilled crafters. The cross in the middle with the Chi Ro symbolizes the connection between heaven and earth, embodied by the coming of Christ. The Angel with the trumpet announces His birth and the star symbolizes His coming. Other symbolic content includes: fish, ancient symbols of the Catholic faith, the waters or baptism. Human community spanning city and country refers to the Chatfield community of St Martin and Cincinnati, the green of new life, and the morning and evening of our lives. St. Angela’s Chapel in Loving Memory of Diane C. Knueven will be dedicated by Archbishop Dennis M. Schnurr in June.
Thank you to the generosity of Chatfield Trustee Bob Knueven and the Knueven family for helping us bring St. Angela’s Chapel to life!
