New Mentoring Program Launching at Chatfield College in Brown County

This fall, Chatfield College is beginning a
mentoring program at its Brown County Campus. This program provides students with the support and
encouragement they need to achieve a better future for themselves and their families. Those interested in
becoming volunteer mentors are asked to attend an
information session on campus on Tuesday, September 12th at 9:00 am in the Fr. Raymond Kammerer Library & Learning Center. The only other requirement to be a mentor is to pass a background check and be able to meet with a student mentee for about an hour once per month on Chatfield’s campus.

Chatfield serves many first-generation college students and adult-learners who would benefit from the support and encouragement of a mentor. These students are working towards an associate degree and may need a little extra help along the way—even if it is simply someone to talk to.

“With our small classes, individual attention, and the tutoring help we provide, most can handle the academic requirements,” explains Sr. Patricia Homan, Associate Dean and VP of Mission
Effectiveness.  “But too many of our students are unable to navigate the day-to-day challenges life brings – from child care issues to juggling doctors’ visits, to transportation problems, or whatever
obstacles that serve as distractions on a given day or week – and causes them to miss school and eventually give up and withdraw.  Sometimes they just need a little encouragement and someone to talk to.   A mentor is someone who can relate to them, to tell them they can do it, they need not give up!”

The September 12th meeting is only informational and your attendance will not create any further obligation.  Refreshments will be served, so please RSVP to 513-875-3344 ext. 123 if you plan to attend.  Or for more information, visit www.chatfield.edu/academics/mentoring.
