New Mascot Unveiled: Chatfield Squirrels

Chatfield College’s marketing and admissions departments, in conjunction with the college president, have settled on a new mascot to represent the college community–The Chatfield Squirrels.

Chatfield’s former, and often forgotten mascot was the eagles. As the college celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, it made sense to reinvigorate a sense of Chatfield pride with a new mascot. After extensive market research, the team found that the higher education market was not saturated with squirrels, unlike the former eagle mascot. Squirrels were ultimately chosen because their characteristics mirror the essence of a Chatfield student: they prepare for the future, they’re compassionate, family-oriented, intelligent, have distinct personalities, and are good problem-solvers.

“Mascots are an important part of brand identity and school pride,” said Christina Mullis, Director of Admissions and Marketing. “Having a mascot shouldn’t be limited to only schools with sports teams. Our college community has much to celebrate, and a mascot can help build an emotional connection within and outside of our community,” said Mullis.

Students, alumni, faculty, and staff will have an opportunity to suggest a name for the college squirrel in the coming months. The marketing department will be working on an official graphic design for the mascot, as well as the creation of an official mascot costume.
