Chatfield College Offers Alternative to Displaced ITT Tech Students

When ITT Technical Institute closed its doors earlier this month, hundreds of students who attended the college’s Norwood campus were left without a plan for their educational future.  While some have found similar degree programs at area colleges, others are still searching for answers.  Chatfield College, a small, two-year liberal arts college with campuses in Brown County, OH and Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine neighborhood, believes they may have some of those answers.

“There are displaced students out there who had just enrolled but were not able to begin their program of study before the college closed, and who are still undecided about their education,” said Kenneth Spencer, Chief Academic Officer and Dean at Chatfield College.  “These students, or any ITT student who has not yet decided on an academic plan, may now wish to consider a field of study at a traditional two or four year college. ”

Chatfield College is offering a $500 scholarship to ITT Technical Institute students who have been affected by the closure of the Norwood campus.   In addition, the college will also hold an information session on Wednesday, October 5 at 2:00 pm at its Over-the-Rhine campus for displaced ITT Tech students, or any students impacted by recent for-profit college closings, to review their educational and career goals, as well as financial aid options.  Students may also call 513-921-9856 ext. 215 to discuss options or schedule individual appointments for educational counseling.  Chatfield’s Over-the-Rhine campus is located at 1544 Central Parkway, directly across from the Cincinnati Ballet.

“Chatfield is known for its small class sizes and personal attention,” said Spencer.  “Our students are guided individually through the enrollment and financial aid process, which is ideal for those students who may be overwhelmed with the recent closing of their for-profit school.”

“We are regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission,” added Spencer.  “This means that if you choose to go on to pursue a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, substantially all of your credits will likely transfer to other accredited institutions.”

Spencer also said that for the past three years, Chatfield has been named a Best Value School by University Research & Review, and that the college offers 28 individually endowed scholarships available only to Chatfield students.

“And, our tuition is 20% less than what students were paying at ITT Tech,” he said.  “That can add up to a substantial savings over a two-year enrollment.”
