CHATFIELD COLLEGE HOSTED INAUGURAL CRIME SCENE FORENSICS CAMP WITH A GRANT FROM GREATER CINCINNATI FOUNDATION
CINCINNATI, Ohio—June 28, 2021. Chatfield College hosted its first Crime Scene Forensics Camp, an outreach effort to underserved communities, June 21-25, 2021. The camp was made possible in part from a generous grant from Greater Cincinnati Foundation’s Summertime Kids. Other donors included Jersey Mike’s Anderson Township, Dr. Beth Murray of Cincinnati, OH(certified forensic pathologist), and Ken Mullis of Cincinnati, OH (Diplomat-American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators). Additionally, LaRosa’s Queensgate and Raising Cane’s in Clifton provided discounts for lunch.
Students from 10 different ZIP codes from Clermont, Hamilton, and Boone counties, participated in the camp. During the week, they learned how forensic science solves crime scenes. Topics included evidence collection, bullet trajectory, blood spatter analysis, forensic anthropology, and various forms of latent evidence. The camp ran from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day and included lunch.
“The idea of hosting this camp at Chatfield College came from a desire to offer a topic of interest for junior and senior high students while providing them with a fun and educational curriculum in a safe environment,” said Christina Mullis, Director of Admissions and Marketing. “We had students who attended the camp because they want to be a forensic nurse or go into a science field or because they are interested in law enforcement. The students were able to make great connections for their future.” Additionally, students learned how to earn college credit for free through Ohio’s College Credit Plus program and take classes such as Introduction to Criminal Justice at Chatfield College.
