Reflecting and serving others
We believe that students are stronger academically when they not only reflect inwardly on their personal values but also have opportunities to reach outside of themselves to serve others.
Strengthening Academic Success By Serving Others
At The Chatfield Edge we believe that academic success is strengthened when serving others is a priority. We instill the attributes of Servant Leadership in everything we do, and work to instill these same attributes in the student scholars we serve. They include:
- Nurturing the whole person
- Fostering collaboration
- Becoming caring leaders who empower others
- Living Gospel values
Living out these values ultimately improves the well-being of the student (personally and academically), their community, and the world.
Participate in Community Service
Participation in community service opportunities allows the entire Chatfield Edge community to give back to others. Options include volunteering for events sponsored by The Chatfield Edge or its partners, participating in service at one’s learning institution, or serving one’s family or local community. Spiritual and personal growth opportunities will be offered through optional reception of daily words of affirmation or through opportunities offered on campus. As students approach graduation, conversations with mentors can also take place to discuss how the individual can begin to give of themselves to their community. Individuals making an impact on their community with humility exemplifies the servant leader.
Serving Others: An Ursuline Value
Our emphasis on serving others has deep roots. It began in 1535, when Angela Merici, an Italian Catholic religious educator, founded the Company of St. Ursula. This group of dedicated women devoted their lives to spreading the Gospel by teaching, counseling, opening schools, and orphanages.
From this organization grew the Order of Saint Ursula who, centuries later, inspired the opening of Chatfield College and The Chatfield Edge.
