The Chatfield Edge Mentors

Become a Mentor

Mentors are key to the mission of The Chatfield Edge. Our mentors listen to and offer guidance in all phases of a student’s educational journey including:

  • Choosing a school that’s best for them
  • Preparing to enroll
  • Coaching during coursework
  • Networking
  • Developing life skills after graduation

Each mentor is assigned one student with whom they meet four times throughout each semester for roughly one hour per meeting. The initial meeting will be coordinated through the Director of Programs, either in Brown County or a public location. Subsequent meetings are held at a public place determined by the mentor and mentee.

Thinking about mentoring? Do it, even if you think you don’t have enough to contribute. Just as a working adult, you have way more to offer than you think and can help students with their expectations for the future.

– Erin Harris, Mentor

Is being a mentor right for you?

Mentors are good listeners and good at:

  • Goal setting
  • Problem solving
  • Building new relationships
  • Positive encouragement

What many of our students need most is the confidence to know they can succeed. A training session at The Chatfield Edge will help prepare you. And we’ll organize a kickoff gathering where you’ll meet your mentee.

We’re always available to help. We’ll sit in on your meetings with your mentee when needed. And we’re just an email or phone call away if you have questions.
